"Gasolina" (Gasoline in the Spanish language), is a popular reggaeton song by Daddy Yankee. Released in 2004 as part of Daddy Yankee's Barrio Fino album, the song became a reggaeton mega-hit, being a chart-topper in many countries well into 2005.

Before the release of Barrio Fino, Daddy Yankee was well known to reggaeton fans. "Gasolina", however, let him gain popularity among Hispanic mainstream music fans as well, becoming a hit in Puerto Rico, the rest of Latin America, the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, and Australia.

trivia...

During his performance at the 2005 Premios Los Nuestros, Daddy Yankee came into the show in a red Lamborghini, which was pulled down from the roof of American Airlines Arena in Miami, while singing Gasolina. This moment was voted as the best moment of the show by online voters at Univisión's website. In addition, the song gained Daddy Yankee popularity in Europe, allowing him to fill a stadium in Madrid. The song was remixed in late 2004, featuring Lil Jon, Pitbull, and N.O.R.E, and was also a smash hit. The song was also used in the 2006 film The Benchwarmers.

The song was produced by Luny Tunes.

interpretation...

"Gasolina" has garnered major confusion due to its lyrics. Though its significance is well known in Puerto Rico, few Spanish-speaking North Americans understand it. The line "a ella le gusta la gasolina" (literally meaning "she likes gasoline") seems to make no sense. In Spanish slang gasolina refers to alcoholic beverages. It has been suggested that the term "gasolina" in this song refers to male ejaculate and the song is actually about the act of love making. Alternatively to "like gasoline" can be interpreted as meaning "like to party". In some other Puerto Rico slang, "ella le gusta la gasolina" can mean "she likes to drive(ride)" the song might be talking about a girl who just likes go to out and ride with "Daddy."
