"1, 2 Step" is a song written by Ciara and rapper Missy Elliott, and produced by Jazze Pha for Ciara's debut album Goodies (2004). Featuring Elliott, it is one of four songs originally recorded two years before the release of Goodies with Jazze Pha in Atlanta, Georgia. Jazze Pha asked Elliott to appear on the song, and she recorded her verse in Miami, Florida. "1, 2 Step" is derived from the beat generated by Afrika Bambaataa in the song "Planet Rock". 1,2 Step is Ciara's second top ten single.

"1, 2 Step" was released as the album's second single in October 2004 (see 2004 in music) in the United States and the second quarter of 2005 (see 2005 in music) internationally. It quickly reached the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100, and peaked at number two for seven weeks. The song also became Ciara's biggest hit outside the U.S., reaching the top ten in most countries. "1, 2 Step" was ranked at number five on the Billboard year-end chart. Its video takes place in an Atlanta skating rink and on the streets. B5 makes a short appearance in the video. Ciara can be seen teaching others the song's titular "one, two step" dance, which is similar to the traditional grapevine.

"1, 2 Step" was nominated for the 2006 Grammy Award for "Best Rap/Sung Collaboration", but lost to "Numb/Encore" by Jay-Z and Linkin Park.

In Ciara's Goodies album booklet, there is a misprint crediting Jazze Pha as A. Phalon instead of P. Alexander, which stands for Phalon Alexander.
